Route guide

How cargo reaches Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan has no EU border and sits behind two transit belts, so the route matters more than on any other Central Asian lane.

Road via Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan

The workhorse route. From our Vilnius hub trucks run through Latvia or via Belarus and Russia — depending on what the goods are allowed to transit — then Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the Farap / Alat crossing into Turkmenistan near Turkmenabat. Full trucks only: Turkmenistan issues transit and entry permits per vehicle, so consolidated LTL is not economical on this lane.

Middle Corridor via the Caspian

For goods that cannot cross Belarus and Russia: Poland → Turkey or Georgia → Baku → Caspian ferry → Turkmenbashi port. Longer and pricier, but fully outside BY/RU.

Rail

Wagon and container shipments from Lithuanian and Polish terminals to Turkmenabat and Ashgabat via Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Best for heavy, non-urgent volumes: steel, equipment, chemicals in drums.

Air

Vilnius, Riga, Warsaw or Frankfurt → Ashgabat, direct or via Istanbul. 1–3 days door to door for samples, spare parts and urgent shipments.

What adds days: a missing import permit on the consignee side, goods that need state certification (food, cosmetics, medical) and dual-use screening on EU export. What saves days: EX-A and T1 issued in Vilnius before the truck leaves, and a consignee whose paperwork is ready before the cargo arrives.

Documents for Turkmenistan

From the EU side we prepare the EX-A export declaration, T1 transit, CMR, packing list and — where needed — the EUR.1 or certificate of origin from the Vilnius Chamber of Commerce. On the Turkmen side the importer needs the contract and import permits required for the goods category, and for food, cosmetics or medical goods a state conformity certificate. Veterinary and phytosanitary certificates for animal and plant products are issued in Lithuania before departure — our HS code check tells you whether your code needs one.

Pricing: what a quote includes

Turkmenistan quotes are per truck, not per pallet. The price includes EU export formalities, transit permits and CMR liability insurance. Not included: Turkmen import duties, state certification fees and demurrage if the consignee's paperwork is late. We give a fixed quote within 24 hours of receiving the packing list and HS codes.

Why INFOBETA on the Turkmenistan lane

Working since 2008, Turkmenistan is one of our five Central Asian lanes — not an occasional extra. We know which border works this month, which goods will be stopped in Belarus, and which need the Caspian route. Forwarder liability insured for 200 000 EUR. One coordinator from booking to delivery, in Lithuanian, English or Russian.

FAQ

Turkmenistan freight — common questions

Which freight modes do you offer to and from Turkmenistan?

We move cargo by road, rail, air (avia) and multimodal transport — as full loads — choosing the fastest, most cost-efficient option for each shipment. Air freight reaches worldwide.

How long does delivery between Turkmenistan and Europe take?

Transit time depends on the mode and route. We plan the quickest realistic option through our Lithuanian hub and minimise delays; ask us for an exact estimate on your lane.

Do you handle customs clearance for Turkmenistan?

Yes — full import and export customs clearance, prepared documents and T1 transit support so your Turkmenistan shipments move without hold-ups.

Which cities in Turkmenistan do you deliver to?

We deliver across Turkmenistan — including Ashgabat, Turkmenabat, Mary, Turkmenbashi, Dashoguz — and to other cities on request, both import and export.

Can goods to Turkmenistan transit through Belarus and Russia?

Most can, some cannot: EU regulations 765/2006 and 833/2014 prohibit transit of listed goods. Enter the HS code in our free checker — it shows whether the Belarus route is open or the cargo must go via the Caspian.

Do you consolidate partial loads to Turkmenistan?

Not on a regular schedule — per-vehicle permits make LTL uneconomical. For small volumes we offer air freight or consolidation into a client's own full truck.

What is the fastest way to get an urgent shipment to Ashgabat?

Air freight via Istanbul or Frankfurt: 1–3 days door to door. Send us the weight, dimensions and HS code and you will have a quote the same day.
